In recognition of the need for highly mobile assault bridging systems capable of breaching both natural and artificial obstacles, IMI has developed a wide variety of mobile bridges, utilizing state-of-the-art computerized design and fabrication facilities. The bridges are the result of many years of experience and cooperation with IDF, and utilize sophisticated technologies, materials and alloys for the maximization of load-to-weight ratios, quality and dependability.
IMI designs and tailors its bridging systems according to the customer's specific topographical conditions, types of obstacles, transportation modes, breaching configurations and all other parameters effecting the design of mobile assault bridges.
One such a system is the TANDEM, an M60/M48 (Magach) AVLB-mounted dual bridge system, which consists of one launcher and two bridges. The bridges are identical and interchangeable (each bridge can be launched and retrieved by either end); first bridge mates with the launcher (same as AVLB Bridge) and becomes the launcher for the second bridge. The system has the advantages of multiple obstacle capability, mountain operations (deliberate craters), high survivability and redundancy.
