Israel Military Industries Ltd. (IMI) unveiled the new Semi Automatic Sniper Rifle SR-99, designed and manufactured by the Integrated Security Systems Group (ISSG). The rifle design is centered on the unique operational requirements of snipers in combat environment. Rapid entry into firing positions and the ability to deliver sequential firing and maintaining stealth for extended periods of time during covert operations are important features of the new weapon.
SR-99 provides high precision rapid firepower required in combat as well as for security missions. The stock acts as the primary interface between the sniper and the rifle. Using an adjustable folding stock made of lightweight carbon fiber it has adjustable soft cheek piece, butt plate, rear support leg and a hand stop rest to enable individual adjustment for maximum comfort and efficient human interface. These aspects are especially important under extended field use. SR-99 accommodates standard optical devices such as telescopic sight or night viewing devices. The use of quick detachment scope mount ensures zero retention even after repeated dismounting.
SR-99 uses 7.62 x 51 NATO (.308" win) ammunition. It weighs 5.1 kg. Fully loaded with a 25 round magazine and a Nimrod sight and mount its weight is 6.9 kg. With overall length of 1112 mm (845 mm with folded stock), the rifle is equipped with heavyweight 508 mm barrel, offering excellent precision at longer ranges. An integral muzzle break acts as a jump compensator, improving rapid-fire precision in follow-on shots. Loading and cocking mechanism can also be operated manually, a feature which is especially useful on stealth operations. |
